Uri Wygodny

MSc student in Geophysics, Tel Aviv University

Uri Wygodny is an MSc student and a member of the Photonic Seismology Lab led by Dr. Ariel Lellouch. Uri's research focuses on developing innovative methods for microearthquake location by combining inertial and distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) measurements, supported by large-scale seismic data processing and validation with both synthetic and field datasets.

He brings an interdisciplinary background, holding a BSc in Physics and Earth Sciences from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he gained experience in astrophysics research, numerical physics, and applied mechanics. His academic path is complemented by hands-on laboratory work in quantum nano-engineering, where he developed automation scripts and operated advanced optical instruments, and by professional experience in the high-tech sector as a QA engineer and network manager.

Uri’s technical expertise spans Python (Pandas, NumPy, ObsPy), MATLAB, and LabView, with practical applications in seismic signal processing, DAS, and applied seismology. His earlier work in cloud automation and military computer networks management sharpened his problem-solving skills and teamwork abilities, while his involvement in projects such as student rocketry reflects his curiosity-driven approach to science and engineering.

At the Photonic Seismology Lab, Uri contributes to advancing seismic monitoring techniques, integrating computational methods with novel sensing technologies to address challenges in earthquake detection and geophysical analysis.
