In an exciting joint effort, researchers from the Geological Survey of Israel, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and Tel Aviv University (Department of Geophysics) teamed up to deploy a Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) fiber-optic cable along the Dead Sea. This institutional collaboration combines regional expertise with cutting-edge optical technology, transforming standard fiber into a continuous network of thousands of high-resolution seismic sensors. Together, the team is opening a powerful new window into the region's subtle subsurface dynamics and microseismic activity.

Dr. Ariel Lellouch's Photonic Seismology Lab was proud to contribute to this massive team effort, with Dr. Eyal Shimony and PhD student Aleksei Nelaev driving our lab's fieldwork and technical setup on-site. We are incredibly grateful to all of our partners for a smooth, successful deployment in the field. We look forward to analyzing the dense, continuous seismic datasets this collaborative network will deliver.
